Prerequisites
Before creating the automation, make sure you have:
- An active BotSailor account
- A Telegram bot
- Your Telegram bot connected to BotSailor
- Access to the BotSailor Chatbot Manager
A basic message you want to display when requesting the user's location.
A confirmation or follow-up message to send after the location has been shared.
Before creating a location workflow, businesses should understand that a telegram bot get user location system requires a connected Telegram bot and a configured automation flow.
BotSailor's official Telegram documentation confirms that connected Telegram bots can be used for automated replies and bot flows, and you can test a connected bot directly through Telegram.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Go to the Chatbot Manager
Log in to your BotSailor dashboard and open the Chatbot Manager.
This is where you can access and manage your connected chatbot accounts.
If your Telegram bot has already been connected, simply find it in the list and select it.
The Chatbot Manager works as the central place where you can configure Telegram automation, including workflows that allow a telegram bot get user location process.
Step 2: Connect or Select Your Telegram Bot
If you haven't connected your Telegram bot yet, connect it to BotSailor first.
Once the connection is complete:
- Open Chatbot Manager.
- Find your Telegram bot under Bots/Accounts.
- Click the Telegram bot you want to configure.
BotSailor provides Telegram bot integration for automated conversations, keyword replies, and other Telegram automation features.
For businesses planning to collect location information, this connection is necessary because the bot needs access to request and receive telegram location data from users.
Navigation:
Chatbot Manager → Telegram Bot → Select Bot
Step 3: Open the Automation Section
After selecting your Telegram bot, look at the menu available for that bot.
Click:
Automation
Inside this section, you should see options such as:
| Keyword Replies | Follow-up Sequences | Quick Actions | Outbound Actions |
For this setup, first select Quick Actions.
Navigation:
Telegram Bot → Automation → Quick Actions
The automation section allows you to create workflows where your bot can request information, including a user's location. This is the foundation of a telegram bot get user location setup.
Step 4: Select Location Reply
Inside Quick Actions, you will find several predefined action options.
These may include options such as:
- Get-started
- No Match
- Un-subscribe
- Re-subscribe
- Phone Reply
- Email Reply
- Location Reply
- Birthday Reply
- Chat with Human
- Chat with Bot
Click Location Reply.
BotSailor describes Location Reply as an action that can automatically respond after a user shares their location.
This feature is useful when creating a telegram bot get user location workflow because the bot can automatically react after receiving the user's shared telegram location.
Businesses can use this automation for:
- Delivery area checking
- Nearby service availability
- Branch location assistance
- Customer support routing
- Local business inquiries
Navigation:
Automation → Quick Actions → Location Reply
Step 5: Configure the Location Reply
The Visual Flow Builder will now open.
Here, create the response you want users to receive after they share their location.
For example, you can add a Text block with:
“Thanks for sharing your location.”
Your flow can look like:
Location Quick Reply Template → Start Bot Flow → Text Message
You can customize the final message depending on your purpose.
For example:
Delivery business:
“Thanks for sharing your location. We will check whether delivery is available in your area.”
Service business:
“Thanks! We have received your location. Our team will check the nearest available service.”
General confirmation:
“Thanks for sharing your location.”
The telegram bot get user location process becomes more effective when the user receives an immediate confirmation after sharing their details.
BotSailor's Flow Builder supports visual conversation creation and different message elements, allowing automated responses to be assembled within the flow.
Step 6: Save the Location Reply
After completing the Location Reply flow, click Save.
This step is important because this Quick Action determines what happens once Telegram sends the user's location to your bot.
At this point, you have configured the response to a location.
Next, you need to create the button that asks the user to share the location.
The saved Location Reply works together with the telegram bot location button to complete the user interaction. When a customer taps the button, Telegram can send the requested location information back to the bot.
Step 7: Go to Keyword Replies
Return to your Telegram bot's Automation section.
This time select:
Keyword Replies
Then click the + Create button on the right side.
BotSailor supports keyword-triggered replies in which a particular user message can initiate a configured bot flow.
Navigation:
Automation → Keyword Replies → + Create
Step 8: Configure the Start Bot Flow
The Visual Flow Builder will open again.
Start by configuring your Start Bot Flow.
Give your flow a recognizable reference name.
For example:
Reference Name: Location
Then define the keyword or keywords that should trigger the location request.
For example:
location
or:
hello, hi, start
You can also choose an appropriate keyword matching type.
For example, with Exact Keyword Match, BotSailor triggers the bot when the user's message exactly matches the configured keyword.
A clear trigger helps users start the location-sharing process easily. Once triggered, the bot can guide users toward sharing their telegram location through the automated flow.
Step 9: Add a Text Message
From the Flow Builder, add a Text block after the Start Bot Flow.
Enter a short message telling the user why their location is required.
For example:
“Thanks for messaging us. Please provide your location.”
Connect the flow:
Start Bot Flow → Text
Keep the message clear so that users understand what they need to do next.
A properly written message improves the success rate of a telegram bot get user location workflow because users know why they should share their location.
Step 10: Add a Location Button
From the Text block, select Add Buttons and create a new button.
Enter:
Button Title: Location
The button should make it obvious that tapping it allows the user to share their location.
Your flow will now resemble:
Start Bot Flow → Text Message → Location Button
This button works as the main telegram bot location button that allows users to send their location directly from Telegram.
Unlike a regular message button, a location action button can request the user's location permission and simplify the sharing process.
Step 11: Configure the Button as a System Default Action Button
Click your newly created Location button to open the Configure Button panel.
For When user press the button, select:
System Default Action Button
Then find the Action Type option.
Select:
User location
Your settings should therefore be:
Button Title: Location
When user press the button: System Default Action Button
Action Type: User location
Then click Save.
This setting allows the button to request location information rather than behaving like an ordinary text or URL button.
After configuration, the telegram bot location button becomes an interactive option that allows users to share their location directly inside Telegram.
This is the main step for creating a telegram bot get user location feature because the bot receives the user's location data after the button interaction.
Step 12: Check the Complete Bot Flow
Before saving the overall flow, confirm that the elements are correctly connected.
The request flow should look like:
Start Bot Flow → Text Message → Location Button
And your separate Quick Action should handle what happens after a user submits their location:
User Shares Location → Location Reply → Confirmation Message
This creates the complete interaction:
Keyword → Location Request → Telegram Bot Location Button → User Shares Telegram Location → Automatic Location Reply
Step 13: Save the Bot Flow
Once everything is configured correctly, click the Save button at the top-right corner of the Flow Builder.
Make sure both parts have been saved:
- Location Reply Quick Action
and
- Keyword Reply Flow with the User Location button
BotSailor's Telegram keyword-flow documentation similarly instructs users to save a configured flow before testing its trigger inside Telegram.
Step 14: Test the Location Button in Telegram
Now open Telegram and find your connected bot.
Send the trigger keyword you configured.
For example:
User: hi
The bot should answer:
Bot: “Thanks for messaging us. Please provide your location.”
A Location button should appear.
Tap the button and share your location.
After Telegram sends the location, the Quick Action should activate and your bot should respond with your configured confirmation, such as:
“Thanks for sharing your location.”
The shared location can be used as part of your customer service, delivery, or business automation process.
A properly working telegram location workflow allows businesses to receive customer location details directly through Telegram conversations.
Success Verification
Your Location Reply automation is working correctly if the complete conversation follows this sequence:
User sends trigger keyword
↓
Bot asks the user to provide a location
↓
Location button appears
↓
User taps Location
↓
User shares Telegram location
↓
Location appears in the conversation
↓
Bot automatically sends your Location Reply message
For example:
User: Hi
↓
Bot: Thanks for messaging us. Please provide your location.
↓
[Location]
↓
User shares location
↓
Bot: Thanks for sharing your location.
If all of these actions occur, your setup is complete.
Troubleshooting
1. The bot does not respond to the keyword
Check the keywords configured in your Start Bot Flow.
If you selected Exact Keyword Match, the user's message needs to match your configured trigger correctly.
Also make sure the Keyword Reply flow has been saved.
2. The Location button appears but doesn't request a location
Open the button configuration and verify:
When user press the button → System Default Action Button
Then confirm:
Action Type → User location
Do not configure it as a normal URL or unrelated action button.
The correct setup ensures that your telegram bot location button works properly and allows users to share their location.
3. The user can share a location, but no confirmation appears
Go back to:
Automation → Quick Actions → Location Reply
Check whether your Location Reply flow contains a message and whether the flow has been saved.
Location Reply is specifically intended to run when a user shares location information.
4. The bot does not work in Telegram
Verify that you selected the correct Telegram bot inside BotSailor and that the bot is still connected.
You can open or search for your bot in Telegram and send it a message to test the connection.
5. The user cannot share their current location
If Telegram itself cannot access the device's location, check the device's location services and Telegram's location permission, then try the button again.
Once your basic Location Reply Button is working, you can expand the flow based on your business needs.
For example, after receiving a location you could create additional automation for:
- Delivery inquiries
- Nearby service availability
- Branch assistance
- Lead collection
- Customer support
A location-based chatbot can help businesses provide personalized services based on customer location.
Using a telegram bot get user location workflow, businesses can collect location details automatically and connect them with other chatbot actions.
