#2734-API to toggle bot & AI agent per subscriber

What exists today

In Live Chat, every subscriber has two manual switches:

  • Bot on/off: whether bot flows and auto-replies run for this subscriber.
  • AI agent on/off: whether the AI agent replies to this subscriber.

These switches can only be changed by hand from the dashboard. There is no way to change them through the API.

The problem

We run our own CRM alongside the platform. Many of the decisions about who should get automated replies are made in that CRM, for example:

  • A lead is assigned to a salesperson, so the bot and AI agent should stop replying and the human takes over.
  • A deal is closed or the customer escalates a complaint, so automation should pause for that person.
  • The conversation is handed back from the team to automation, so the bot or AI agent should turn back on.

Right now someone has to open the dashboard, find the subscriber and flip the switch by hand. This is slow, easy to forget, and it means customers sometimes get bot or AI replies in the middle of a human conversation.

What we’re asking for

API endpoints that do exactly what the manual switches do, for one subscriber:

  1. Set bot status: turn the bot on or off for a subscriber.
  2. Set AI agent status: turn the AI agent on or off for a subscriber.
  3. Get status (read): return the current bot and AI agent state for a subscriber, so our CRM can show it and stay in sync.

Suggested parameters, matching the existing subscriber APIs:

  • apiToken
  • phone_number_id
  • phone_number (the subscriber’s number), or the subscriber ID
  • bot_status: on / off
  • ai_agent_status: on / off

The two switches should be controllable on their own. For example, we might want the bot to stay on while the AI agent is off.

Expected behaviour

  • The change takes effect right away, the same as flipping the switch in Live Chat.
  • The dashboard shows the new state, so the team sees what the API set.
  • Clear error responses when the subscriber doesn’t exist or a value isn’t valid.

Why it matters

This would let businesses connect their own CRM, helpdesk or automation tools (n8n, Make, Zapier) and control the handover between humans and automation without anyone touching the dashboard. It also fixes the common problem of a bot replying while a human agent is already talking to the customer.
