We can list templates and send approved ones, but we can't create or edit a template through the API. Templates can only be made in the dashboard UI. Please add template create and update endpoints.
Current API (what we can do today)
GET /whatsapp/template/list: list templates with statusPOST /whatsapp/send/template: send an approved template
What's missing
- Create template: submit a new template to Meta for approval with:
- name, language and category (Marketing, Utility, Authentication)
- header (text, image, video or document, with a media sample)
- body with
{{n}}variables and example values - footer
- buttons (quick reply, URL, phone, copy code)
- optionally carousel and limited-time-offer components
- Update/edit template: edit an existing template's content (Meta allows edits on approved templates, limited to once per 24 hours and 10 per 30 days) and re-submit it for review.
- Delete template (nice to have).
- Status visibility: return the Meta review status (
PENDING,APPROVED,REJECTED) and the rejection reason, so a caller knows why a template failed. Optionally support a webhook on status change. - Variable mapping: set the variable-to-contact-field mapping through the API. Today an unmapped template can't be sent through the API.
Why we need it
- Our customers want to create templates by asking their AI assistant, for example "make a Diwali offer template", without opening the dashboard using API
- With create and update, the whole flow (draft, submit, check approval, send) can run through the API. Today the flow stops after the draft.
- Agencies and businesses managing many accounts need to create templates in bulk and keep them consistent.
Suggested shape
Accept the same component structure as Meta's Graph API (name, language, category, components[]), so BotSailor can pass it through with minimal translation. Return the new template's id and template_id and its initial status.
