BotSailor AI Assistant Training Guide-Overview

Overview

BotSailor allows you to train your AI chatbot by creating custom training campaigns. You can guide the assistant with prompt messages, FAQ-style questions, URLs, and file uploads to enhance its understanding of your services and expected response style.

🔹 Step 1: Access AI Training Campaign

  • Navigate to IntegrationsAI Training Campaign on the sidebar.
  • Click the ➕ New button to create a new campaign.

🔹 Step 2: Create a Training Campaign

  • Campaign Name:
Choose a name that describes the purpose of the training.
Example: Customer Support Bot Training, BotSailor Support Agent, etc.

Prompt Message:
This is the initial instruction for your AI. It defines the tone, role, and responsibility.
Example:
"You are our support agent. Always respond professionally and helpfully. Provide accurate information based on training content. If unsure, suggest contacting human support."

🔹 Step 3: Add Content or FAQs for Training

You can train the AI with:

  • Summary-based input (detailed overview or manual).
  • FAQs (question-answer pairs for quick responses).

➕ Add FAQs

  • Click on + Add More FAQ.
  • Input your question and answer in each block.
  • Recommended for cost-efficient training and faster matching.

📝 Tip: Use common queries like “What is your pricing?”, “Do you support Shopify?”, “How can I cancel my plan?” etc.

⚠️ Note:

  • Summaries generate more contextual replies but use more tokens.
  • FAQs are more token-efficient and great for structured responses.

🔹 Step 4: Add URL-Based Content

  • Go to the URL tab and click ➕ New.
  • Campaign URL: Paste the relevant webpage (e.g., your pricing page).
  • Fetch Content Configuration:
    • Specify selectors (class/id) to include only useful content.
  • Remove Content Configuration:
    • Specify selectors to exclude unnecessary content like menus, headers, etc.
  • Choose between:
    • Generate Raw Response: Full context answer.
    • Generate FAQ: Converts sections into Q&A.

🔹 Step 5: Add File-Based Content

  • Go to the File tab and click ➕ New.
  • Upload files in .pdf, .doc, or .txt formats.
    • Examples: training manuals, product guides, or internal documentation.
  • After upload, choose:
    • Generate Raw Response for deep, contextual answers.
    • Generate FAQ for token-efficient Q&A-style input.

✅ Best Practices

  • Use a clear and structured prompt to set expectations for the AI.
  • Use FAQs for predictable, repetitive queries.
  • Use URLs/files for dynamic or bulk content, like policies or guides.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

1. What type of content works best for AI training?
Use FAQs for structured, repetitive questions and answers. For detailed explanations or documents, use URLs and file uploads. Combine these formats for comprehensive training.

2. How often should I update my AI training content?
We recommend reviewing and updating your training campaigns every 1–2 months or whenever you release a new product, feature, or major update to your business.

3. Can I use multiple formats (FAQs, URL, files) in one training campaign?
Yes! You can combine FAQs, webpage URLs, and documents in a single campaign to provide the AI with varied and rich context.

4. What is the difference between Raw Response and FAQ generation in URL/File tabs?

  • Raw Response allows the AI to use the content for deep contextual replies.

  • FAQ Generation converts the content into Q&A format, which is more token-efficient.

5. Is there a token usage difference between FAQs and Raw Response?
Yes. FAQs are more token-efficient and recommended for common questions. Raw Response consumes more tokens but is useful for detailed, nuanced answers.

6. Can I train the same AI assistant for different bots or pages?
Yes, you can create multiple training campaigns targeting different bots or customer segments with specific instructions and content.

7. What kind of files can I upload for training?
You can upload .pdf, .doc, or .txt files. Make sure the content is clean and relevant to your AI assistant’s purpose.

8. Where do I configure the AI assistant’s role or tone of voice?
You can define the AI's tone and role in the Prompt Message section while creating the training campaign. This sets the foundation for how it responds.

9. Will the AI forget previous training if I update the campaign?
No, the AI will build upon or replace the current training data based on the updates you make. It’s always good to refine content instead of overwriting completely.

10. How can I test if the AI is responding as expected?
After training, initiate a live chat or use the test mode (if available) to simulate customer queries and see how the AI responds. Adjust your content if needed.
